Hiking and Nature Walks

We love to hike and there are many wonderful places to hike in the bay area. Here are just a few of our favorites around the area:

Shoreline Park
Take Shoreline Blvd north from I-101 and head straight into the park. This is a great place to do lots of stuff including: nature walks, hike, bike, rollerblade, jog, wind surf at the lake, have a picnic, fly a kite or just relax under a weeping willow tree. You can even play a round of golf!!

Stanford Dish Trail Loop
Take Page Mill Rd east from I-280, and left on Junipero Serra Boulevard. (be careful where you park, there's lots of restricted parking nearby). Often called the Dish Walk (because of a satellite receiving dish crowning the mountain), this 4.0 mile paved loop trail has a great view of the south bay and in a clear day, you can see all the way to San Francisco. This is a great walk but we also like to jog here!!

Rancho San Antonio
Take Foothill Blvd south from I-280, and right on Cristo Rey Drive. There are several trailheads in this open preserve. We like to start at the PG&E trail. It's also a great place to fly a kite during windy days. Or stop by the Deer Hollow Farm while you're there.

Stevens Creek County Park
Take Foothill expressway south from I-280, stay in the middle lane to Stevens Canyon Road. The first couple miles of this trail is along the Stevens Creek Reservoir which is great for a short nature walk. It's a great place to relax and watch people fish.

Mission Peak
Take Mission Blvd east from I-880 and turn right on Stanford Ave. If you want a great workout early in the morning (start around 7am), go for this hike. It'll work your Gluteus Maximus!! It's a 3.3 mile hike up to the summit where you get a 360 degree view of the entire bay area. Make sure you bring lots of water especially on hot summer days. These trails have very little shade.
