Hope you enjoy our weekly journal of our marathon training.
Week 20 - 12/06/04
Miles this week = 2 miles
Total so far = 302 miles
Yeay, this is it. We're flying to Hawaii this Friday!! We made sure
to stretch regularly and we cutoff caffeine until the race. We had
a great time training with Team In Training. They really helped us
to feel confident about our marathon. Go Team!!
Week 19 - 11/29/04
Miles this week = 13 miles
Total so far = 300 miles
We are getting very excited. Only two more weeks!! We're doing our
best to eat and sleep well. Our final weekend run was at Shorline
for 7 miles.
Week 18 - 11/22/04
Miles this week = 4.5 miles
Total so far = 287 miles
This is the start of our 3 week taper. We need to take it easy from now
until our marathon to regenerate and heal. We like taper :) Since
this week is Thanksgiving holiday, we decided to take it really easy.
Week 17 - 11/15/04
Miles this week = 30 miles
Total so far = 282 miles
Our weekend run was all the way in Monterey this past Saturday. It took at least 1.5hours
just to get there. It was a great place to run. The views of the ocean were beautiful.
Unfortunately, it was really windy and fairly cold so it was tough on the legs. We ran
20 miles. Andrew did really great and Abby did better compared to her last long run (must
be the new shoes).
Week 16 - 11/08/04
Miles this week = 10 miles
Total so far = 252 miles
We rested most of the week. It's hard to keep running after running so much the
week before. We did a 10 mile in this weekend at Shoreline. Abby also got some
new shoes...hopefully it'll help make her feet feel better.
Week 15 - 11/01/04
Miles this week = 30 miles
Total so far = 242 miles
Lots of running this week. Our weekend run was at Natural Bridges in
Santa Cruz. It was a perfect weather running by the ocean with
breathtaking views all throughout. Unfortunately the run was 19.5 miles, so it was so
tough, especially for Abby. Now we're just counting the days until Honolulu.
Week 14 - 10/25/04
Miles this week = 16.5 miles
Total so far = 212 miles
It's On-Our-Own this week and a shorter run...thank goodness. The long
runs are really getting so hard now. Abby's foot problem is just getting
worse.
Week 13 - 10/18/04
Miles this week = 21 miles
Total so far = 195 miles
This Sunday we ran the Nike Half Marathon. Besides the painful
hills and 13.1 grueling miles, it was a good race :) The weather was
perfect for running. Andrew finished 2:16 and Abby finished 2:22.
Week 12 - 10/11/04
Miles this week = 12 miles
Total so far = 174 miles
Well, Abby's foot was throbbing and painful after Tuesday's run
so it's rest time for her (even skipped the coaches workout to
rest her foot). We ran the Stanford Dish and Campus drive loop
on Sunday. Andrew did well but Abby had a tough time. The
downhills are really tough on the knees and feet.
Week 11 - 10/04/04
Miles this week = 30 miles
Total so far = 162 miles
Guess it just gets harder and harder from here. Our weekend run at
Woodside had lots of hills and tough terrain. Andrew started a new
running technique so no more knee pain. Abby, on the other hand, got
new issues with her left foot. We were already exhausted at mile 6,
and we still had more hills and 11 more miles to go. We could barely
walk back to the car at the end of it all. Wow, who's idea was it to
run this marathon?? So tired.
Week 10 - 09/27/04
Miles this week = 20 miles
Total so far = 132 miles
All fresh and new from our 3 week vacation. We jumped right
back into training. Except it didn't really help much with
Andrew's knee pain. Our weekend run was at Cayote Hills in Fremont.
We barely got through 14 miles. This is the most painful yet.
We were pretty sore for the rest of the weekend.
Week 09 - 09/20/04
Miles this week = 10 miles
Total so far = 112 miles
Well, we had a lovely time in Greece. The cruise was
very relaxing and a good time for Andrew to heal from his
knee problem. We got back on Saturday and ran 10 miles
on Sunday.
Week 08 - 09/13/04
Miles this week = 5 miles
Total so far = 102 miles
No running for us for most of this week since we were on a
land tour around Greece. The sites were beautiful and as
we visited Olympia, it reminded us of all the runtime we were
missing...not really :) We were able to run again at the
National Gardens before we got on our 7 day cruise...felt
a little guilty :)
Week 07 - 09/06/04
Miles this week = 7 miles
Total so far = 97 miles
We think it's pretty good that we even got any running done since
we left for Greece this week. Our Honeymoon!! We did run 4.5miles
just before we left and we found a nice garden in Athens that has
a 1.5mile loop trail. The National Gardens is at one end of the Plaka
near the Acropolis. It was great to run along side the locals and
the paralympic athletes.
Week 06 - 08/30/04
Miles this week = 15 miles
Total so far = 90 miles
Andrew - didn't run at all this week. Still having knee problems.
Abby - ran Rancho San Antonio this weekend. first 4 miles of uphill
(~400 ft up) and then all downhill with 7.5 miles total. The downhill
was fun!!
Week 05 - 08/23/04
Miles this week = 20 miles
Total so far = 75 miles
We've increased our tuesday runs to 6 miles now and our Thursday
Coaches workout now consists of sprints around the track. Our
weekend run was 10 miles at Los Gatos Trail (10.5min-mile pace).
Week 04 - 08/16/04
Miles this week = 11 miles
Total so far = 55 miles
Andrew started to have knee pain this week. He already went through
3 types of shoes until settling for Brooks but the damage was already
done. It's OYO (On-Your-Own) this week, so we ended up just running
about 5 miles due to his knee pain.
Week 03 - 08/02/04
Miles this week = 13 miles
Total so far = 44 miles
Andrew has decided to officially join the team..hooray!! He even ran the
Stanford Dish loop twice. Some people might say he's crazy, but
we'd like to say he's dedicated to the cause. This weekend
was our time trial 5k race. Well, it was suppose to be 5k but it
ended up to be more like 4 miles. That was tough (8min-mile pace).
Week 02 - 08/02/04
Miles this week = 22 miles
Total so far = 31 miles
It's still the early phase of our training. You can tell by the
number of miles that we put in this week, we're still hyped
about this whole marathon event. Our weekend run was at Cayote
Creek Trail in San Jose (fairly flat 8 mile bike trail).
Week 01 - 07/26/04
Miles this week = 9 miles
Our first week of training was off to a good start. Our weekend run
was only 4.5 miles (Stanford Fields) and we're used to running that
on our Tuesday lunchtime runs. Andrew is still debating on whether he
should join Abby in 4 months of painful training or just sit back and
enjoy the views of Hawaii....hhmm, tough choice.
