2006 Year In Review

This year was fairly quiet and relaxed for us, just the way Andrew likes it :). Only a few significant events linger in our minds.

  • Bat Cave In March --
We joined a group from Abby's work to see bats at Bear Gulch Cave in Pinnacles National Park (2 hours south of San Jose). Although we only saw a couple of bats, we did enjoy walking through the cave. It turned out to be a beautiful day for a hike.
  • Down-under In May --
We headed down-under to Australia for two weeks and celebrated Andrew's 30th birthday. In Sydney we explored the city life and visited a few local residents at the Sydney Zoo. In Uluru, we discovered the history of the Aborigines and greeted the morning sun on a camel ride along the desert; We glided up through and above the rainforest canopy in Cairns and hung out with the fishies of the Great Barrier Reef. Australia is an awesome place, the people were very friendly and the country is rich with beauty.
  • New Member of the Family --
As soon as we got back from Australia, we had little Artoo waiting for us and our life has never been the same since (especially for Andrew). It's amazing how much he's developed since we got him. He's imitating so many different sounds including Abby's laugh, door squeaks, beeps and saying hello. He's still very shy when it comes to strangers but he's also very curious and loves to explore.
  • Gotta Run --
Abby did a lot of running this year. She joined a running group - San Jose Fit, to train for the Silicon Valley Marathon on October 29. As part of her training, she also ran the San Francisco half-marathon in July. When the big event finally came, she was devasted with leg cramps and struggled to the finish line. Upset by her finish time, she decided to try one more time in Sacramento.

So, on December 3, on a clear, not so chilly morning, Abby ran her 3rd marathon, from Folsom Dam to Downtown Sacramento. Although, she's no Paula Radcliffe or Dean Karnazes, she's happy to report that she finished her race in 4 hours and 23 minutes, her personal best.

(Andrew has been struggling with knee problems throughout the year. He did run the half-marathon in October but now he's decided to take it easy with running)
